137. "Take the Poison"

jewishsightseeing.com,  July 20, 2006

As retold by Bruce Lowitt

Stein goes to the rabbi.

"Rabbi, something terrible is happening."

"What's wrong?"

"Becky is trying to kill me."

"What?" the rabbi exclaims. "You're married thirty-seven years. Three children. Seven grandchildren. The two of you have always seemed so happy."

"Rabbi, I'm telling you, I'm certain she's poisoning me. What should I do?

"Tell you what - let me talk to her. I'll see what I can find out."

A week later the rabbi calls Stein.

"Well, I spoke to your wife," the rabbi says. "I spoke to her on the phone for three hours. You want my advice? Take the poison."
