As retold by Bruce Lowitt

Rachel Zinman is driving from her home in Phoenix to visit her parents in Boca for a few weeks. But she gets a late start and by 10 p.m. she's exhausted, so she gets off I-10 at Pascagoula, Mississippi, and pulls into the first nice hotel she sees.

"Sorry," the desk clerk says. "There's no vacancy."

Just then, a man and his wife get off the elevator with their luggage and check out.

"Great," Rachel says. "Now there's a room."

"Sorry", the clerk says. "This hotel is restricted."

"What does that mean?"

"It means Jews aren't allowed here."

"What makes you think I'm Jewish?"

"Oh, please" he says.

"I'm Catholic! " she insist.

"Catholic, huh? Let me ask you, did God have a son?"

"Sure."

"What was his name?"

"Jesus."

"And where was he born?"

"In Bethlehem, in a stable."

"And why was he born in a stable?"

"Because a putz like you wouldn't rent his parents a room!"
