Golding tells post-mayoral plans

San Diego Jewish Press-Heritage, Dec. 8, 2000

San Diego (special) -- Just before leaving the office in which she put in long hours, former Mayor Susan Golding was asked at a Rotary Club meeting what she planned to do next. Whatever it is, she replied, she hopes her earnings compute to more than minimum wage.

On Monday, the day she was succeeded by Dick Murphy, she issued a tongue-in-cheek news release saying her plans were to 1) sleep in; 2) don't long on; 3) sleep in again; 4) call in to talk radio shows; 5) watch the television show West Wing; 6) make comments on non-agenda items at City Council meetings; 7) celebrate New Year's Eve in Prague (that one was true), 8) Climb the Matterhorn; 9) collect residuals and 10) burn CDs.

Then Golding gave the real answers about her post-mayoral plans. She will serve as a board member of the International Republican Institute which offers emerging nations advice on strengthening democratic institutions. This will involve considerable travel in the near future including to Eastern Europe, Africa and possibly China.

She also will head an unnamed corporation which will "provide international market development, long-term and global strategic planning and will advise companies on matters of national public policy that impact their industries." She already has two clients: MP3.com and Titan Corporation. -- Donald H. Harrison
