Eran Lerman is executive director AJC's Israel/Middle East Office in Jerusalem. AJC was the first national, American-Jewish organization to open an office in Israel's capital city, in 1961. The first Sabra to represent any major American Jewish organization in Israel, Lerman joined AJC's staff in 2001 after a distinguished career in the Israel Defense Forces Directorate of Military Intelligence Research and Production Division, where he rose to the rank of colonel and held the position of assistant for strategic analysis. Lerman is a third generation Israeli and one of Israel's top strategic analysts on Israel, the Palestinians, Islamic fundamentalism, and the wider Middle East region. He is a regular op-ed contributor to Israeli and U.S. newspapers. Lerman earned a doctorate from the London School of Economics at the age of 25. He holds a bachelor's degree in Modern Middle Eastern history and general history from Tel Aviv University, and recently earned a mid-career degree in public administration at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government.
