I just want to register a comment (about 13 months late) concerning your blog dated 06/16/2005. Please understand, I grew up with the belief that we are brethren and this is NOT hate mail.

I believe your families would fight as hard to keep a Star of David on a memorial to Jewish soldiers and I don't know of any TRUE Christian who would object. What you said about the "separation of church and state" is basically true if you remember to include that MOST of our ancestors came to America seeking freedom to worship any God, any way we choose.
 
We should be united in our fight to protect these rights. Whether we know it or not, we're on the SAME SIDE.

Thanks for writing, Mr. Brenner, even if it is 13 months later.  I don't think your note is anything like hate mail. Concerning your point, however,  I refer you to a paragraph in the article in question in which I stated: "A cross no more belongs on a public mountaintop as a symbol of the sacrifice veterans have made for our country than a Star of David or any other religious symbol does."  —Donald H.
