E David & Claire Ellman took the 222nd membership in the Louis Rose Society for the Preservation of Jewish History, and designated Charlene Seidle, associate director of the Jewish Community Foundation, as an honoree.  She is the 385th member of the San Diego Jewish community, present or past, to be so honored.

S Julie Smith, daughter of San Diego County Assessor Greg Smith and Arlette Smith, is making aliyah to Israel. "I'm not leaving because I dislike America,” Smith told Sandi Dolbee, the religion and ethics writer of The San Diego Union-Tribune, in an interview published August 6. “I'm leaving because I like Israel.” Noting that Julie expects to live near the now-explosive Lebanese border, mother Arlette told Dolbee:  “I'm very proud of her passion, but I'm very nervous. The thought that my daughter's going to be right in the middle of everything, as a mom, I'm quite worried.”
